The Bong beauty, Rani Mukherjee turns 37 today. This year, the day will be more special for the actress as she will be celebrating it with her little daughter Adira. The bubbly girl married director Aditya Chopra in 2014 and gave birth to a baby girl, Adira, on December 9 last year. Cousin to Kajol, Rani made her mark in B-Town with films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Chalte Chalte, Saathiya, Black to name a few.
On her birthday today, let’s take a look at her journey in Bollywood.
Before making her Bollywood debut in Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat, Rani dabbled acting by playing a supporting role in her father’s Bengali film Biyer Phool in 1996.
In 1994, director Salim Khan approached her to play a lead role in Aa Gale Lag Jaa, but her father disapproved as she was only 16 years old.

Rani gained recognition for a supporting role performed in Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Viewers would be surprised to know that Rani was not first choice of Karan Johar. Tina’s role was first offered to Twinkle Khanna. After she turned down the role, KJo approached her which resulted into a long lasting friendship between the two.
Her career improved with Yash Raj Film Saathiya and she established herself as a leading actress with roles in Hum Tum, Veer-Zaara and Yuva. She achieved further success for portraying a deaf, blind and mute woman in movie Black (2005) and an unhappily married woman in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). Later she gave few more films, but they didn’t do well at the Box Office. Her energetic performance in No One Killed Jessica (2011) proved to be her first Box Office Hit in four years, followed by successful thriller Talaash: The Answer Lies Within (2012) and stunning performance in Mardaani (2014).
